The Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, has suspended the pioneer vice-chancellor, Professor Innocent Ujah.

In the same vein, Professor Ediga Agbo has been appointed as the acting vice chancellor of the university.

Professor Ujah, who was the pioneer Vice Chancellor, was expected to complete his tenure in the next few months. He was suspended for alleged gross misconduct and wilful disregard for authority.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday and made available to journalists in Makurdi on Tuesday by James Onogwu, the Coordinator of Information, Publication, and Public Relations for the institution.

According to the statement, the acting vice-chancellor was announced during a special council meeting.

The statement read in part, “Professor Ediga Bede Agbo has been appointed as the acting Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO).”

“Prof. Ediga Agbo emerged as the acting Vice Chancellor of the university during the special meeting of the Governing Council held on the seventeenth of October, 2024, and presided over by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of FUHSO, Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami.”

The statement noted that the pioneer Vice Chancellor, Professor Innocent Ujah, had earlier been suspended by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council and its members.

“The Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council and its members, during the meeting, suspended the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Innocent Ujah, mni, OON, NPOM, for alleged gross misconduct and wilful disregard for its authority.”

When our correspondent contacted the embattled Vice Chancellor by phone, he declined to comment but stated that the committee would soon hear from him.
