The Federal Government, on Monday, commissioned the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) newly established automotive training and CNG conversion centre in Kano State.

The commissioning exercise which was performed by the Minister of Federal Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI), Dr. Doris Uzoka- Anite, marked a significant advancement in nation’s automotive sector.

Speaking at the ceremony, NADDC Director General, Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, stressed the importance of investing in automotive skills to combat poverty and foster local development.

“The council is dedicated to enhancing local capacity and sustainability within the industry, having established 21 training facilities across the country, with 15 fully equipped.

“The Kano Centre will focus on skill development and will soon commence training in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion, aiming to empower the youth and support the community,” Osanipin said.

While performing the official commissioning of the state-of-the-art facility, the minister reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to job creation through effective use of national resources.

She described the CNG conversion centre as one of the initiatives of the FMITI and NADDC designed to key into the Presidential CNG Initiative of the Federal Government and ensure successful implementation of the programme.

Uzoka- Anite applauded the NADDC leadership and his entire team for making the vision a reality, just as she congratulated Kano State people for being part of the first beneficiaries of the NADDC CNG Conversion Centres.

She also encouraged all Nigerians to embrace the new technology for more education and employment.

Other dignitaries at the event were the Permanent Secretary, FMITI, Ambassador. Nura Abba Rimi, the representatives and members of the Nigeria Automotive Technicians Association (NATA), MotorMechs & Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOMTAN)etc.

The newly equipped auto training and CNG conversion centre will empower technicians and mechatronics specialists, enabling them to convert existing petrol and diesel vehicles to gas-powered models.

This development not only meets the growing demand for gas-powered vehicles but also equips local technicians with essential skills, to ensure proper maintenance and repair of such vehicles.
