THE Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in conjunction with National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT) has trained youths and women in agribusiness focusing on tomato/pepper production in Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency, Adamawa State.
A total number of one hundred youths and women were trained and empowered during the programme.
The training covered nursery practices, transplanting techniques, field establishment and management, control of pests and diseases, harvesting techniques as well as tomato and pepper value addition. The training aimed at building the capacity of youth and women on tomato and pepper production for creating wealth and generating means of sustainable livelihood.
The Representative of the facilitator, Mr. Solomon Adamu commended the Federal Government for empowering the women and youths. He also thanked Rt. Hon. James Barka representing Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency, Adamawa State for facilitating the programme.
He then urged the participants to take the advantage of the training to acquire knowledge and skills which will enable them to establish their own tomato and pepper farms, thereby contributing to food and nutrition security in the nation.
Two of the participants, on behalf of others, thanked the Federal Government and the Rt. Hon. James Barka for the training. They promised to put into practice the knowledge acquired during the training.
