
A final-year student of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, identified as Nwachukwu Omiko, slumped and died in a football pitch.
Omiko, who was a student of Mechanical Engineering in the University, was said to be playing football with his friends when he slumped, but efforts by his peers to resuscitate him did not succeed.

It was gathered that the school authority was promptly informed about the incident.

He was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, in the University’s oxygen-equipped ambulance at neck-breaking speed but was confirmed dead by doctors at FMC.

In a statement by Ubadire Agua, Chief Public Relations Officer of the University, said that the school regrets that despite the efforts to keep the student alive, it lost him to the cold hands of death.
Ubadire said: “The Vice-Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, CFS, extends the deep regrets and condolences of the University to the parents and family of Mr. Omiko as well as his colleagues in the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology.”
The University Management also appealed to all students of the University to check their health status with the University Health Services upon arrival on campus, and avoid strenuous exercises if they have underlying health challenges.
