Gov Inuwa to present N320bn 2025 budget to Gombe Assembly

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, is set to present the 2025 budget before the State House of Assembly.

This comes after the State Executive Council (SEC), during its extraordinary meeting on Monday endorsed a budget proposal of N320 billion for the upcoming fiscal year.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mijinyawa Ardo Tilde, stated this while briefing newsmen shortly after the 44th State Executive Council Meeting presided over by Governor Inuwa Yahaya at the Council Chamber, Government House, Gombe.

Providing insights into the approvals made during the State Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Salihu Baba Alkali, noted that the approved budget will be formally presented to the state lawmakers for their legislative scrutiny and passage, in line with legal requirements.

He further explained, “The complete details and sectoral breakdown of the budget will be disclosed during the budget presentation scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, 2024.”

The Council also approved the engagement of Consultant to set up and operationalise the newly established Gombe State Medical Supply Company Ltd towards ensuring regular supply of quality medical consumables to healthcare facilities in the state.

Shedding light on this development, the Commissioner of Health, Dr Habu Dahiru stated that the sum of N1.684 billion was approved for the consultancy services, which will cover the procurement of equipment, utility vehicles, power facilities, consultancy services, among others for the extended period of five years subject to satisfactory performance by the government.

Also, the Commissioner for Water, Environment and Forest Resources, Muhammad Saidu Fawu, said the Council has approved the engagement of Cosmopolitan Cleaners Ltd at the sum of N160,000,000 monthly.

The cleaning vendor, he noted, has been re-engaged to cover approximately 191 kilometers across the Gombe metropolitan area, with the contract period set to run from 1st December 2024 to 30th November 2025.

He further explained that the Contractor’s responsibilities include desilting drainages, managing refuse dump sites, and carrying out other environmental sanitation activities.

Muhammad Fawu emphasized that the government cannot tackle these challenges alone, urging residents to support these efforts by refraining from dumping waste in waterways and along roadsides.

He added that community sensitization initiatives are already underway to ensure a smooth execution of the exercise.

Also speaking, the Commissioner of Works, Engr. Usman Maijama’a Kallamu, said that approval was given for the extension of Kuri-Lambam-Dasa-Talasse Road which was previously awarded.

According to him, “Considering the need for the extension of the road to the Palace of Kuri District Head, the road was extended with 1.3 km, making it 28.3 km in length. Now the total amount of the contract stands at N14, 098, 233, 000, reflecting an addition of N1.4 billion”.

“The road construction has reached 70% completion and is expected to be completed in the next three months” he added as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General, (Press Affairs), Government House.
