The Acting National Chairman of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Iliya Damagum, declared that Nigeria and Nigerians are currently facing hardship because they have prioritized trivial items like peanuts, Talia, and spaghetti over more important things.

Damagun also criticized President Bola Tinubu for lacking meaningful development plans for the country and its citizens, focusing solely on political power.

He made these remarks after a closed-door meeting with the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Sen Bala Mohammed, addressing the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP.

Damagum emphasized that the suffering experienced by Nigerians, regardless of their status and religion, should serve as a lesson that must not be repeated in the future.

In his opinion, during the build up to the 2023 general elections, electorates were advised and even warned not to vote for the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) again but they refused to adhere and still went ahead to vote for them and this is the result of sufferings.

He said, “Where is the Talia, the spaghetti, the sugar, Detergents and others. This is the result we are all witnessing today. The APC and its leaders do not have any positive plans for the future of the country, only quest for power.”

He stressed that during the 2023 General elections, people were busy voting for APC instead of voting for the PDP in order to have a new leaf and witness development, “but look at the results, the critical condition that the country is in, hardship and other negativities.”

Umar Damagun however reaffirmed the PDP’s enduring position as Nigeria’s most resilient and dependable political party saying, “As a political party, PDP remains the only true party. We have in the past gone through turbulent times, but, we came out stronger and better.”

He also commended Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir for the contributions he has made to the success of the party, particularly in fostering unity and cohesion among the members at all levels.

He said that the remarks of Bala Mohammed during the various meetings underscored the PDP’s strength as the only tested and trusted political party in the country.

The Acting National Chairman of the PDP called on Nigerians to prepare well and vote out the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and vote to bring back PDP in 2027 for the development of Nigeria.

Umar Damagun was accompanied by all the State Chairmen of the PDP in the North East except that of Taraba who could not make it due to the distance and short notice, however all Zonal and National Officers from the Zone were conspicuously not in attendance.
