The House of Representatives Committee on Works has resolved to review all ongoing construction projects across the country.
The committee headed by Hon Akin Alabi, in a short statement made available to newsmen on Thursday also disclosed that it will begin oversight on all projects under its purview including those from the last administration.
The statement also disclosed that about 24 motions on projects across the six geopolitical zones have been referred to by the whole house.
The motions include Call to Rehabilitate Owo-Ifon-Benin Federal Road, Ondo State (HR.63/07/2023); Need to Construct a Road in Ogboora, Oyo State Linking Ilesha Baruba, Gwanara and Bukuro in Baruten Local Government Area, Kwara State to Connect Nigeria to the Republic of Benin, Burkina Faso and Togo to Ease the Exchange of Goods and Services (HR.33/07/2023); Need for Rehabilitation and dualisation of Ore-Ondo-Akure Federal Road, Ondo State (HR. 105/07/2023) and Need to Speed-up Rehabilitation of Gbongon-Iwo-Oyo Road of Osun State (HR.153/07/2023) in the South West.
Others are Calling on the Federal Government to Construct Lafia-Doma-Ruttu-Bassa-Rafin Gabas-Nasarawa-Orozo Road (HR.11/07/2023); Need for Emergency Repair Works on Naka-Makurdi-Aliade-Gboko and Aliade-Otukpo Federal Road Network of Benue State (HR.59/07/2023); Need to Rehabilitate Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi Road to Okene Road, Kogi State (HR.52/07/2023) and Need to Provide Control Measures on the Federal Road in Ganaja Flood-Prone Area of Ajaokuta, Kogi State Linking the South-East States to Prevent Severe Socio-Economic Adverse Effects on Nigerians (HR.91/07/2023) in North Central.
Others are Need to Reconstruct the Failed Portions of the Oba- Nnewi-uga-akokwa-arondizuogu-okigwe Federal Road in Idemili North/Idemili South/Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo, Aguata and Ideato North/South Federal Constituencies. Anambra and Imo States (HR.27/07/2023); Deplorable State of Akonike Junction-ugwuomu-emene NNPC Depot-abakaliki/Ogoja Gateway in Enugu State to Reduce the High Rate of Accidents in the Area (HR.215/10/2023) and Need to Rehabilitate the Collapsed Akokwa-umuchima- Mgbe-orlu Federal Road and Mgbe-umuezeala-ogboko Bridge in Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State (HR.107/07/2023) in the South East geopolitical zone.
Those from the South-South are Deplorable State of Ewu-uromi-agbor and Auchi-ewu- Benin Federal Highways (HR.30/07/2023); Need to Rehabilitate the Failed Section of Warri-benin Federal Road (HR.29/07/2023); Need for Reconstruction of the Eleme-Onne Axis of the East-west Road (HR.55/07/2023); Rehabilitation, Expansion and Dualisation of Benin- Abraka Road in Edo State (HR.85/07/2023); Need to Rehabilitate Okpanam-Asaba Federal Highway, Delta State (HR.233/10/2023); Need to Reconstruct the Amukpe-eku-Agbor Federal Road, Delta State (HR. 158/07/2023); Need to Commence the Construction of Section V of the East-west Road to Link Oron, Akwa-ibom State And Odukpani Calabar In Cross River State (HR.229/10/2023) and Reconstruction of Federal Highways in Edo State (HR.226/10/2023).
Others are Construction of a Bridge to Link Kurmin-kaduna-rafin- Guza-hayin-naiya-anguwan Dosa and Kaduna Town (HR.100/07/22023); Need to Investigate the Abandonment of Section 1 of the Project for Dualisation of Kano-Maiduguri Road (HR.93/07/2023) and Need To Complete The Delayed Contract For The Dualisation of the Kano-Katsina Highway (HR.114/07/2023) in the North-West as well as Need to Control the Erosion Ravaging Bauchi-Gombe Federal Road, Particularly, Alkaleri/Kirfi Section of the Federal Highway of Bauchi State (HR.231/10/2023) in the North-East.
“A list of all the motions referred to us so far. We will review them and see the ones we can work on immediately. We then make a plan for the others.
“We are starting to oversight. Starting with old projects before this administration.
“The supplementary budget we just passed. We must oversee the process from beginning to the end. We start by visiting all (or major) projects on the list to ascertain the current state,” the statement read.
