A coalition of Civil Organizations in Katsina state in Katsina state has reacted to the national broadcast by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday over the ongoing nationwide strike, describing it as empty.
According to Comrade Abdurrahman Abdullahi, the chairman of the Coalition, Tinubu did not address the grudges of the protesters.
“The President’s speech to the nation is empty, that is the opinion of most leaders of thought in Katsina state.
“You see, the youths are agitating for the restoration of fuel subsidy, which they believe is the root cause of the problems, but the president did not address it. It shows he has no plan on restoring the subsidy.
“The youths carry placards spelling out their demands, some boldly written – ‘hunger,’ ‘restore subsidy,’ food price control’. None of these is addressed by the president.
“He had spoken of fertilizer given to farmers; of what use will it be to the farmers; they do not have access to their farmlands because of insecurity especially, we, here in the Northwest.”
Continuing, Abdurrahman said, “In my opinion, the president should have addressed the grudges of the protesters.
“What Nigerians expected to hear apart from the abolition import tax on some food items, is to hear him announce a committee or agency which will be charged with price control. This will break the manipulation of price by traders or marketers.”
“In addition to that government needs to mobilise enough forces with sophisticated arms in order to face the challenges of insecurity which are bedevilling the nation,” Abdurrahman concluded.
