President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to close down the Department of Education in Washington, D.C., transferring educational responsibilities back to individual states.

This move, he argued, would empower local authorities to manage education more effectively, free from federal oversight.

In a recent address Trump said “We want the states to run the education of our children because they’ll do a much better job of it,” Trump stated, expressing dissatisfaction with the current federal management of education.

“We spend more money per pupil by three times than any other nation, and yet we’re absolutely at the bottom,” he said, highlighting inefficiencies he sees in the national education system.

Trump also criticised what he perceives as a lack of genuine care from some within the Department of Education.

“You have people that, in many cases, hate our children,” he remarked, underscoring his belief that state-controlled education would not only be more efficient but would better align with the values he advocates for American children.
