The Chief Executive Officer of PICCAMEN Toy World, Mrs Adedoyin Tijani, has made a call to the state and federal governments to redesign the school curriculum so as to aid the educational progress of children.
Tijani stated this during the Children’s Day programme organised by the firm, which was held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan, where she hosted over 3,000 children.
The celebration saw children engaged in different games and other activities, including bouncing castles, boat rides, face painting, and cartoon characters, among others.
She said: “This is our second edition of hosting a Children’s Day event; last year was our maiden edition, and the purpose is to celebrate children as every child looks forwards to this day, May 27, and being who we are, our motto is Learn 2 Play, Play 2 Learn, so we organised a Children’s Day celebration for children; this is not only about having fun, but about learning.
“For this year’s edition, we have a spelling bee competition and a talent hunt, and we realised during our spelling bee competition that the government needs to merge the syllabus for both public and private schools.
“We saw that there were some little discrepancies when the children were having spelling bee competitions, and we are using this occasion to urge the government that there should be one syllabus for both public and private schools.
“The syllabus should be one; we should not be using different syllabuses because they will all attend the same universities and stay in one environment, which is Nigeria.
“So, we are using this edition to promote education, reading ability, and also spoken English. Some children can write very well, but speaking is another thing, and this is one of the things we are aiming to achieve in PICCAMEN Toy World.
“When we are having fun, we are inculcating values and reading abilities in the children so that they will become the envy of all.
“Our focus is on the on the Nigerian child; once you are a Nigerian child, our focus is on you. We don’t know where you are coming from, as we want to inculcate great values and an educational system in you.”
Also, a school proprietress, Abiodun Adesokan, lauded the organisers for their dedication, adding that all the activities enjoyed by the children were educational.
