Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar A. Namadi, has suspended the Commissioner for Commerce, Alhaji Aminu Kanta, over an alleged financial scandal regarding the Ramadan Free Feeding programme by the state government.
This decision was conveyed in a press statement issued, signed, and made available to Tribune Online in Dutse, the state capital, by the Public Relations Officer in the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Ismaila Ibrahim. The statement mentioned that a member of the state executive council had been suspended due to alleged misconduct in the iftar feeding programme fund of Babura Local Government Area in the state.
The statement read, “Alhaji Aminu Kanta, as the Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry of Commerce and a member of the State Executive Council, has been suspended pending the investigation into the Iftar feeding programme in Babura Local Government Area.”
It further noted that “the suspension was communicated in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim.”
Mr. Ismaila Ibrahim reiterated that the action is part of the commitment of the Malam Umar Namadi-led government to ensure financial accountability and prudent management of public funds.
According to the statement, “The Governor directed the issuance of the suspension in a letter conveyed by the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim.”
Tribune Online in the state gathered that the suspended commissioner is a childhood friend of the immediate past governor and current Minister of Defence, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar.
