No fewer than 40 workers and trade union associations have been mobilized by the Jigawa State branch of the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) for the celebration of this year’s International Workers day.
The NLC state chairman Comrade Sunusi Alhassan Maigatari revealed this while briefing newsmen on their preparation for the annual celebration, saying the theme of this year is “Workers Right and Economic Improvement”.
He noted that beside the trade union, they also invited the state Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, politicians, Religious and Traditional leaders, Civil societies , friends and well-wishers to join the labor in celebrating the day.
Comrade Sanusi added that the theme of this year’s celebration is “working toward enhancing the Social and Economic well-being of Workers”, describing it as timely considering the social and economic instability in the country.
Sanusi stated that they are going to use the occasion to review workers’ life and their working conditions, engaging all stakeholders for a way forward on improving the working conditions for effective public service delivery.
“We are at a crossroad now, as in the next few days a new government will come onboard in the state. We appreciated our cordial relationship with the outgoing government in the last eight years and we hope the incoming will continue from where its predecessor stop.
“In the last eight years, Jigawa state is a reference point in terms of timely payment of workers salary, pension and other entitlements. We have confidence that the incoming governor who has been part of the government will maintain the tempo,” Sanusi declared.
He, however, reiterated the commitment of the union to pursue for the welfare of workers and equally promote moral discipline, hardworking, professionalism and sincerity among the workers for peace and progress of the Jigawa state and Nigeria at large.
