As the power tussle for the Kano emirship continues, the Kano State House of Assembly has passed a bill seeking the creation of second-class Emirates in the state.
On Tuesday, during its plenary session presided over by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, the House passed the bill.
It should be noted that lawmakers had previously conducted the first reading of the bill before going on recess.
They resumed from recess on Monday.
Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello Butubutu moved for the adoption and passage of the bill after the second and third readings.
This development comes amidst the lingering battle for the throne between the reinstated Kano Emir, Muhammad Sanusi II, and the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
It has been reported that the new second-class emirates created include Rano, Karaye, and Gaya, while Bichi was excluded from the bill passed into law on Tuesday.
Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, the deposed Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero, was previously the emir of Bichi before being dethroned along with four other emirate councils created out of the state by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
With this development, affected locations, including Bichi, recently lost their first-class emirs when Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf dethroned the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and four other emirs.
The ongoing emirship tussle in Kano has witnessed a series of dramas since Muhammad Sanusi II was reinstated as the 16th Emir of Kano by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
