The Kano State Government has extended the deadline for the ongoing recertification of Certificates of Occupancy (CofOs) by an additional two months.

The exercise, which began on November 25, 2024, and was initially set to conclude on January 31, 2025, will now continue until April 1, 2025.

The government urged all land and property owners who have yet to recertify their ownership documents to take advantage of the extension, warning that failure to do so could result in the forfeiture of property rights under existing regulations.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning, Muhammad Musbahu Yahuza, a copy of which was made available to the press in Kano.

Yahuza commended the public for their overwhelming response to the recertification process. However, he acknowledged concerns regarding the initial timeframe and assured property owners that the extension would provide ample opportunity to complete the process.

The recertification is being conducted at the Kano State Geographic Information System (KANGIS) office, and property owners are advised to comply within the new timeframe to avoid legal consequences.
