The Head of Kogi State Civil Service, Mr. Elijah Evinemi, has cautioned the youth against the “quick money” syndrome that has pervaded society.
He also urged them to develop a vision and pursue it vigorously in order to secure a brighter future.
Evinemi delivered this message at the Ihima Civic Center in Ohueta, Okehi Local Government Area of the state during a youth engagement with the Head of Service.
He encouraged the youth in Ihima to always aim higher, stating that meaningful achievements cannot be attained without giving due consideration to self-development in the area of education.
While cautioning the youth against the “quick money” syndrome prevalent today, Mr. Evinemi said the effects of such activities are always disastrous.
“Without a vision, one can easily miss the road. As youth, you must plan what you want to achieve in life and pursue it vigorously, even in the face of challenges.
“As long as you were not born with a silver spoon, you must be proactive. I joined the civil service with a secondary school certificate, but today, by God’s grace, I have reached the pinnacle of my career because I was able to develop myself through education.
“With commitment and fervent prayers to God, I assure you that you can achieve your heart’s desires because God did not send anyone to this world to suffer. However, if you refuse to have a vision, you are bound to struggle. Self-development is vital in the life of every human being.
“You may not have the opportunity for someone to advise or encourage you, but you must encourage yourselves so that you can have a better future. As youth, prioritize going to school and read courses that can easily lead to lucrative jobs so that when job opportunities arise, you can benefit,” he advised.
While advising the youth to accord respect to elders and leaders in their communities, the Head of Service charged them to desist from any behavior that could impede the existing peace in the Ihima community.

“His Excellency Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is working tirelessly with President Bola Tinubu for the revitalization of Ajaokuta Steel Company. By God’s grace, this effort will create many jobs for the youth, but you must ensure that opportunity meets preparation,” the Head of Service said.
Earlier in his remarks, the President of the Ihima Welfare Association (IWA), Mallam Bello Omuya Abubakar, described the Head of Service as a leader who has the interests of the people, especially the youth, at heart.
He advised the youth not to allow themselves to be used as agents of destruction, assuring them that the current administration of Governor Usman Ododo has many plans for the youth.
Also in his remarks, one of the community elders, Mallam Ibrahim Ondeku, commended the Head of Service for the youth engagement, describing the effort as the first in the history of the Ihima community.
He, however, solicited the support of the Head of Service in the areas of youth and women empowerment.
