Nationnewslead reports that Kwara State Government has begun the disbursement of N6,000 non-refundable, once in two months stipend to the aged.

The stipend otherwise known as conditional cash transfer (Owo Arugbo), began at Patigi in Patigi Local Government on Monday.

Beneficiaries, mainly old and vulnerable, described the programme as a nice one.

Receiving the November/December cycle of the social safety, recipients said no administration has mapped out a deliberate strategy to reach out to the poor and vulnerable directly as is being done under the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration’s Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP).

Mayaki Gudugi of Patigi Ward 4 expressed delight about the gesture and promised that the money would be used judiciously.

“I am very grateful for this money given to me. I thank the government for this gesture,” he said.

Aishatu Madu of Patigi Ward 3 said the stipend would help to improve the standard of living of her family.

She hailed Governor AbdulRazaq for the initiative, saying the gesture would be the first from the state government in history.

Madu said the beneficiaries would remain grateful to the governor for providing succour for the aged and the vulnerable.

Another beneficiary, Alhaji Saadu Gomina from Lade Ward 2, urged the government to sustain the allowance in order to reduce poverty among the people.

Mr. Shehu Naibi, a beneficiary of trader money component, “Owo isowo, said he would inject the money into his petty business.
