Stakeholders of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara have vowed to stage a comeback to power in the 2027 general election.
Speaking at an empowerment programme for 200 youth and women in support of small businesses and 62nd birthday of PDP leader, Senator Bukola Saraki in Offa, the stakeholders hinged their optimism on the party’s perceived impressive showing at the September local government election in the local government and in all parts of the state.
It be recalled, however, that the Kwara state Independent National Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate as the winner of the Offa local government election, while the PDP is challenging the outcome of the council poll in court.
The programme, put in place by a stalwart of the party in Offa, Marooph Bukoye aka Bintinlaye, saw beneficiaries receiving cash donations.
At the event, the PDP chairman for the Kwara South senatorial district, Comrade Bisi Fakayode, said that the Kwara people had learned their lessons.
“I know that they will never make that mistake of voting for APC again. So many things are going on, but when we get to the bridge we will cross it.
“It is very glaring, and there is no ambiguity that the APC government in the state and Nigeria by extension has not performed well,” he said.
Comrade Fakayode said, “By the grace of God, since we are not dealing with KWASIEC in the general elections come 2027, PDP will capture all the seats in Offa. Comparing the seven local government areas in Kwara South, Offa is the most politically advanced. When it comes to politics, the people here are at the forefront.
“In Kwara state, Offa is more or less number one. The result of the last council poll attested to that. The blind and the deaf knew that PDP won.
Also speaking, the PDP state publicity secretary, Adeshola Adewara, told the people not to be deceived by political propaganda of the ruling government against the leader of the PDP, Senator Bukola Saraki.
“They lied that it was PDP that came to carry out armed robbery attack in Offa. It’s all lies. Offa people are wise people. We know those who carried out armed robbery attacks. Was it, not Senator Bukola Saraki who first came to sympathize with people on the attack? He donated a security patrol vehicle and raised the matter of inadequate security personnel in Offa on the floor of the Senate”.
He also urged other well-to-do members of the party to borrow a leaf from the sponsor of the empowerment program ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The sponsor of the empowerment programme, Marooph Bukoye aka Bintinlaye, said that the empowerment programme would soon be extended to other local government areas in the district to keep PDP intact and solid ahead of 2027 elections.
“PDP was very pleased with the outcome of Offa LG election. It is on the premise that we are doing this empowerment to sustain that momentum.
“PDP is ready for the 2027 elections. By the grace of God PDP will grow from strength to strength,” he said.
