The Labour Party (LP) has announced a change of name for the controversial “OBIdient Directorate” to the “Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration”.
This development comes after the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, clarified that OBIdient Movement is distinct from the directorate, which was initially met with criticism and misunderstandings.
According to a statement released Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the renaming is aimed at reflecting the directorate’s true objectives, which are to mobilise and integrate party members and the general public towards achieving the party’s goals.
The inauguration of the renamed directorate will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the party’s National Secretariat in Utako, Abuja, at 10 am. All party members and the general public are invited to attend.
This move is seen as an effort by the Labour Party to address concerns and criticisms surrounding the initial name, and to reposition the directorate as a vital organ for mobilisation and integration within the party.
