The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI, has dismantled no fewer than 138 shanties illegally erected along the canal bank in Ajao Estate.
This was disclosed on Friday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
The demolition exercise, conducted on Thursday, is part of the state government’s intensified efforts to address environmental violations and illegal encroachments in public spaces.
According to Wahab, the occupants of the demolished structures were reportedly paying between N60,000 and N100,000 in rent to reside in the makeshift shelters.
He called on Lagos residents to comply with urban planning regulations, warning that similar enforcement actions would be extended to other areas of the state where illegal encampments have been identified.
He stated, “In continuation of concerted measures to reduce the scourge of environmental infractions and illegal encampment in public spaces, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) popularly known as KAI on Thursday demolished 138 shanties around the canal bank in Ajao Estate Canal where illegal occupants pays between N60,000 to N100,000 rent.”
