The political landscape in Osun State is undergoing a major shake-up as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faces a growing wave of defections, with the most notable being that of Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke, the distinguished lawmaker representing Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency. His departure from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sent ripples through the party, forcing its leadership to hold emergency meetings aimed at halting the drift.
Hon. Oke, a respected voice in the House of Representatives and a seasoned grassroots mobilizer, is widely regarded as one of the most influential political figures in Osun. His decision to pitch his tent with the APC is seen as a bold and strategic move that underscores his commitment to aligning with a progressive platform capable of delivering development and good governance to his constituents.

In a show of solidarity, prominent party members and loyalists have begun to follow Hon. Oke’s lead. Among them is Hon. Oluwasesan Kehinde Auston, popularly known as Agala, the immediate past Secretary of Obokun East Local Council Development Area (LCDA). Agala, who hails from Ward 07 in Esa Oke, officially resigned from the PDP, citing allegiance to Hon. Oke as a major reason for his decision.
“This is in solidarity with my political mentor and leader, Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke, who has just resigned from the party to join the progressive fold of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State and Nigeria at large,” Agala stated in his resignation letter, which has since drawn attention from political watchers across the state.
Similarly, in Oriade Local Government, Mr. Akinmoladun Adesoji, the PDP unit chairman in Unit 05, Ward 09, Ipetu Ijesa, also announced his resignation from the party. According to him, the decision to exit the PDP was taken in full alignment with Hon. Oke’s new political direction and a desire to work under his tested and trusted leadership.
The wave of defections has dealt a serious blow to the PDP’s structure in Osun East, particularly in Oriade and Obokun. Meanwhile, the APC is gaining renewed momentum with the entrance of Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke, whose political strength, experience, and commitment to community development are expected to bolster the party’s chances ahead of future elections.
