The Julius Abure and Alhaji Farouk Umar Ibrahim-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party (LP) has raised concerns over what it described as a series of baseless and disruptive press statements from the Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku. The party warned that these statements could disrupt public peace by casting aspersions on the integrity of LP National Chairman Barr. Julius Abure, the country’s judiciary, and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
The NWC accused Ndubuaku, NLC President Joe Ajaero, and their associates of attempting to plunge the party into unnecessary crises ahead of the 2027 general election for selfish interests. According to the LP, these individuals should be remorseful for allegedly working against the party’s candidates during the 2023 governorship elections.

Speaking in Abeokuta, Ogun State, through the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, the LP-NWC highlighted states such as Lagos, Imo, Nasarawa, Cross River, and Ogun, where the NLC allegedly supported APC candidates against the LP flag bearers. It also accused the NLC of backing the PDP in Oyo, Enugu, Rivers, and Plateau during the same elections.
Arabambi reiterated that the Labour Party’s focus remains on removing the APC from power through legitimate democratic means, with Peter Obi as its presidential candidate for 2027 if Nigerians so desire.
“Our major focus is getting the All Progressives Congress (APC) out of office through the ballot if Nigerians so desire—not through illegitimate means. Peter Obi will fly our party flag for the next presidential election in 2027. Governor Alex Otti will represent us in Abia, while Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, whom the NLC worked against in favor of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2023, will fly the Labour Party flag in Lagos in 2027,” Arabambi declared.
He lamented that the NLC has abandoned its core duty of defending Nigerian workers, choosing instead to undermine Abure and the constitution ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Arabambi accused Joe Ajaero and Prof. Ndubuaku of persecuting Abure due to his refusal to endorse their alleged authoritarian leadership style within the NLC. He described it as hypocritical that the same individuals who previously supported Abure and allegedly mobilized thugs to attack the Lamidi Apapa-led camp ahead of the 2023 elections are now persecuting him.
The LP spokesperson dismissed Ndubuaku’s accusations against Abure as baseless, stating that all police investigations against Abure had been concluded without merit. He challenged the NLC leaders to provide evidence of any wrongdoing by Abure, emphasizing that the Court of Appeal had affirmed the legitimacy of the Nnewi Convention that produced Abure and Farouk Umar Ibrahim as National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively. Only the Supreme Court, not public opinion or the antics of the NLC, can overturn the Court of Appeal’s decision on Abure and his team,” Arabambi insisted.
He accused the NLC of pursuing a “satanic agenda” to destabilize the Labour Party and spread propaganda against its leadership.
Arabambi urged national security agencies to be vigilant regarding Joe Ajaero and Prof. Ndubuaku, recalling their alleged role in inciting civil unrest and destabilizing the national grid.
The NLC has, on multiple occasions, plunged Nigeria into darkness by allegedly shutting down the national grid. It is Ajaero and Ndubuaku, not Abure, who should face justice for their actions,” he asserted.
The Labour Party concluded by dismissing Ndubuaku’s accusations as “nonsensical, toxic drivel.” Arabambi argued that the NLC leaders’ grievances stem from their defeat at the Court of Appeal.
Their baseless accusations are merely the outbursts of embittered individuals who have failed to come to terms with their defeat,” he said.
