Turkey-based Nigerian activist and blogger, Beatrice Opeyemi, known as Tenny Omoologo, has addressed rumours surrounding her involvement in suppressing the ongoing fight for justice for the late Nigerian singer, Mohbad Aloba.
The activist was recently accused of accepting one million naira from Mohbad’s sister-in-law, Karimot Adebayo, with the aim of destabilizing the justice movement.
In a statement obtained by R on Saturday, Tenny strongly denied these claims, providing clarity on her role in the movement and her history with Karimot.
Tenny recounted her past interactions with Karimot, whom she had helped in the past. Karimot, initially against the people fighting for justice for Mohbad, had previously criticised Mohbad’s father and other figures in the struggle.
However, she later joined the effort, and Tenny’s experience with her changed over time. During a live giveaway event on Tenny’s Facebook page, Karimot made a donation to the cause after seeing an increasing number of beneficiaries. Despite her previous hostility, Karimot reached out to ask how much was being distributed, prompting Tenny to share the giveaway plan.
The drama surrounding the money began when a woman named ‘Mummy Light On’ had donated N100,000 to Tenny’s giveaway, and later added another N100,000.
Karimot then reached out to Tenny, expressing an interest in contributing to the initiative. Tenny was hesitant to engage with her due to her past behavior, but the woman encouraged her to give Karimot a chance. Karimot promised N100,000, and soon after, the funds were sent to Tenny.
However, the situation took a turn when Karimot, in a public statement, claimed that she had sent money to Tenny but had not received any acknowledgment in return. Tenny was shocked to hear this, as she had received only N100,000 from Karimot, which was for the giveaway and not for any personal arrangement.
Tenny said, “I want the world to know that Karimot didn’t give me N1 million. She only sent N100,000, which even came late for the giveaway that I did. I didn’t collect N1 million from Karimot or any other person. The N100,000 she sent was not for me, it was sent to support my giveaway.”
Tenny explained that she had been avoiding Karimot due to her rude behaviour and unprofessional conduct in previous interactions.
She made it clear that no monetary exchange took place for any ulterior motives, emphasising that the funds were solely for the giveaway and not to sabotage the fight for justice.
She added, “The most annoying aspect of this issue is that people are now spreading the rumour that I took one million naira from Karimot to destabilize justice for the Mohbad struggle.”
