A man, Tomiwa, has approached Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking that his 11-year-old marriage to his wife, Deola, be dissolved on the grounds of irresponsibility, disrespect and constant fight by the latter.

Tomiwa stated that Adeola constantly abandoned her duty towards him and their children.

According to the plaintiff, the defendant was in the habit of keeping late nights and had refused to change despite the plaintiff’s show of displeasure against it.

He further said that his wife was unkind to his parents and also disrespected them.

Tomiwa added that Adeola regularly constitutes herself a nuisance because of her troublesome nature.

The plaintiff pleaded for their children’s custody in order that he might raise them uprightly.

He also sought an order restraining her from threatening and interfering with his private life.

Adeola agreed to divorce but refused that her husband had their children’s custody because they were both female and still tender in age.

The plaintiff, in his evidence, said, “I got it all wrong in my choice of a wife.

“My wife refused that I had peace of mind since we got married.

“She constantly neglected me and our children and never showed interest in our wellbeing.

“The more I complained, the worse she became.

“My wife always went out without my consent and would return home late when our children were already in bed.

“She cared less if they ate or not before sleeping.

“Adeola rather than take to correction, nagged and fought me almost on a daily basis.

“Our neighbours take us for a nuisance because we never ceased to fight.

“My wife never wanted my parents around her.

“She disrespects them and is always rude and unkind to them.

“Our home brought me no comfort, while our marriage lacked love, joy and peace.

“She later moved out of my house but never ceased to harass and threaten me.

“I pray the court to dissolve our union and grant me custody of our children.

“My wife is not a good example to them.

“I further request an order restraining her from threatening and interfering with my private life.”

Adeola responded, “I am also no longer interested in our marriage, and I have moved out of his house.

“I entreat the court to grant me custody of our children because they are female and still in their tender age.

“I further pray the court to mandate him to be responsible for their upkeep, giving feeding,  education and health care priority. “

The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, after she had heard both parties adjourned the case for judgment.
