President, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has commended President Bola Tinubu for signing the Nigerian Maritime University Bill into law.
Osigwe said, the university, when fully operational will not only create jobs for the Niger Delta people but also possible lead to the end of agitation in the region.
According to a statement he personally signed, Osigwe said: “I congratulate the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on his historic assent to the Nigeria Maritime University Bill, several years after the idea of the university was muted as one of the possible solutions to the agitation in the Niger Delta.
“The Nigeria Maritime University will not only create jobs for the people and residents of Niger Delta but will also create opportunities for Nigerians to have specialised skills in the maritime area. The President’s assent is a welcome development towards strengthening the relative peace in the Niger Delta.
“I urge the people of Niger Delta to protect the institution and ensure that it becomes a conducive learning environment for would be maritime experts.”
