The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has trained 400 secondary students from both public and private schools in Ogun State.
This was disclosed by the Controller, Abeokuta Zonal Office, NDIC, Mr Mohammed Lawal, represented by the Principal Manager, Bank Examination, Mr Elvis Oyakhilome, at the 2023 World Savings Day workshop held at Lisabi Grammar School, Abeokuta, on Wednesday.
The NDIC controller said the aim of the workshop was to guide the learners on how to manage their resources by prioritising their needs above their wants through the art of saving for rainy days.
He said, “Throughout your life, you will be faced with many decisions about saving and spending.
“Your goals can vary from smaller purchases, such as a new smartphone, to larger purchases, such as a car or a house, to long-term savings for any unknowns.
“Everybody should know how to create a budget, how to track spending, and how to save for the future.”
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, Mrs Bosede Ogunleye, appreciated NDIC for organising the workshop for the learners on financial literacy.
“This programme is important for learners in the management of finances. It is a matter of being prudent.
This programme will make you useful for yourselves and society at large,” she pointed out.
Ogunleye said the state government is committed to impacting knowledge that would shape the lives of the students and make them the nation’s future builders.
