The Baobab for Women’s Human Rights, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has called on the Zamfara state government to fully implement the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law in the state.
Hajiya Rabi Ibrahim, the Zamfara Coordinator of the NGO, made the call in Gusau during the rally to mark the 2023 16 Days of Activism Against GBV.

Ibrahim also called for collaborative efforts in tackling the increasing number of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases in Zamfara.
According to her, the rising number of GBV cases in the state remains a source of serious concern for all stakeholders.
“We appeal to the state government to ensure the full implementation of the VAPP Law in this state.
“The VAPP law has already been domesticated in the state by the previous administration.
“We want full implementation of the law, as we all know the content of the law plays a significant role in the fight against GBV.
“In this year’s campaigns, we are targeting men and boys, who are mostly perpetrators of GBV in society,” she explained.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Zamfara Social Protection Platform (ZSPP), a Civil Society Organisation, Mr Yusuf Yahaya, called on parents and guardians to take care of their children to prevent them from the risk of GBV.
Yahaya lamented the high rate of SGBV in schools, urging school management to initiate measures to tackle the menace in their respective schools.
The Executive Director of the Voluntary Aid Initiative, also an NGO, Musa Umar, urged the State Ministry of Justice and security agencies to ensure the speedy prosecution of the perpetrators of GBV.
“GBV has negative effects on humanity; therefore, it needs collaborative effort in tackling it,” Umar said.
