Ogun State House of Assembly, through its Committee on Health, has described the state Health Insurance Scheme (HIS) as a laudable initiative that will help deliver qualitative and comprehensive healthcare service with ease to the people.
The Committee, led by Hon. Wahab Haruna stated this during an advocacy meeting with a delegation from the State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA), led by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Afolabi Dosunmu, at the Assembly complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Haruna, in company of other lawmakers, noted that the scheme will assist a lot of people in the formal and informal sectors of the state economy to have access to health service.
In their remarks, the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye, Honourables Adegoke Adeyanju, Babatunde Tella, Dickson Awolaja and Damilare Bello, stressed the need to strengthen the scheme to achieve its purpose, noting that regardless of its challenges, the health insurance scheme is the way to go.
They promised that as the representatives of the people, they were ready to be ambassadors of the scheme, promising to adopt the scheme as part of their constituency intervention programmes.
Earlier, Dr. Dosunmu said that the state HIS came into existence in 2018 with a mandate to provide affordable and quality healthcare delivery to all residents of the state.
He emphasised the scheme’s potential to ensure that all residents of the state, regardless of their financial status, have access to comprehensive healthcare services at the various accredited centres.
