The youth wing of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has re-elected Mazi Okwu Nnabuike as its National President.
The election took place in Enugu on Monday, with Okwu emerging victorious alongside other members of the group’s National Executive Council (NEC).
According to a statement by Barr. Maduabuchi Anthony, Chairman of the Election Committee, the newly elected NEC members include Chuks Ikekpeazu as Deputy National President, and various national vice presidents representing different states.
In his acceptance speech, Okwu stressed the Ohanaeze youths’ commitment to the economic and political emancipation of the Igbo nation. He also reiterated the group’s demand for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who has been incarcerated for several years.
Okwu expressed disappointment that Igbo leaders did not prioritize Kanu’s release during President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Enugu State. He assured the Igbo youth that he would work tirelessly for the collective interest of the region.

This is Okwu’s second term as National President, having previously served for four years. During his first term, Okwu was instrumental in mobilizing Igbo youth to participate in various community development projects and advocacy initiatives.
The re-election of Okwu has been widely welcomed by Igbo youth and leaders across the country. Many have expressed confidence in his ability to lead the Ohanaeze youths in promoting the interests of the Igbo nation.
As Okwu begins his second term, he faces several challenges, including addressing the economic and social marginalization of the Igbo people, promoting unity and cooperation among Igbo youth, and advocating for the release of Nnamdi Kanu and other Igbo detainees.
Despite these challenges, Okwu remains optimistic about the future of the Igbo nation.
He has called on Igbo youth to remain united and focused on their goals, and to work together to build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has pledged to continue advocating for the rights and interests of Igbo youth, and to work tirelessly to promote the economic, social, and political development of the Igbo nation.
