The Federal Government has been commended for honouring the late literary icon, Professor Chinua Achebe by naming a road after him in Abuja.
The Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, who gave the commendation while speaking to Journalists in Awka on Monday, said the honour is well deserved.
Chief Okeke-Ogene said that the Late Professor Achebe spent his entire life fighting for the common good of the society and used his literary work to champion the crusade against injustice, suppression and marginalization of individuals and groups in Nigeria.
He recalled that Professor Achebe rejected a national honour from the Federal government to protest the ill-treatment and marginalization of Ndigbo by the government of the day, but regretted that most of the ills the literary icon fought against are still challenging Nigeria today and holding down the development of true democratic principles and structures.
He urged upcoming writers and other professionals to emulate the late Achebe by using their talents and skills to fight evil and evolve a society that provides opportunities for everyone and expressed satisfaction that the Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo has sustained efforts towards redefining good governance in the state and the country at large.
