The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 16 gubernatorial election in Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, has advised party faithful and the electorate not be intimidated by the power of incumbency.

Ajayi rather called for unity among all party stakeholders to secure victory in the election.

Ajayi, made the call on Monday at the party’s Secretariat at Alagbaka, Akure, during an interface with the PDP youths across the 203 wards and the leadership of the PDP.

He charged the people of the state not to be intimidated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),  alleging that there are indications of threat to enforce the power of incumbency and federal might in the election.

According to him, the people have the freedom and right to vote for the party they believe could deliver the state from current socio-economic hardship.

He urged them to protect their votes and ensure their votes are counted and recorded so that their votes will count.

Ajayi said: “We have seen signals; we have seen their plans and we are not scared of any intimidation because this is our state.

“What is going to happen is that people will go out and vote; we are not scared of anybody. Once our people conduct themselves in a peaceful manner, you can’t take away their rights to vote for whoever they want to vote for.

“I have always advised that they must not allow any reflection to frustrate them and they must conquer poverty and they will do that by their votes.

“We have prepared for them and we are ready for them. We would resist any act of the intimidation in this state. Forget about the power of any incumbency, the power of masses is more than any incumbency power.”

On his part, the director general, PDP gubernatorial campaign committee, Eddy Olafeso said: “For the last two weeks, we have committed ourselves to ensuring that all the structures of the party across the state are brought to the awareness of the people with all our commitment towards the November 16 governorship election.

“Our party is back better no matter what anybody is seeing; we can see the unity and the steadiness we are putting into the campaigns; we will be visiting all the entire unit, ward and local government area of the state.

“Our message is very simple, Nigerians should understand the suffering we are facing in this country by the ruling APC for the past nine years; our people can no longer pay school fees; children are dropping out of schools; there is no business.”

“No a single project in Ondo State for the past nine years apart from the Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa saying Ondo State is lucky to have him.

“The people of Ondo State are not lucky at all. We want to rewrite the history, we are confident that Agboola Ajayi will be a better option to lead the PDP revolution to bring the better life for our people.

“APC has pushed Nigerians to the wall; they have stolen enough and Nigerians are the owners of this country; not APC and we are ready to kick them out with their incompetence and inability to run a very blessed state for our people.”

The leadership of the PDP youth in the state, Babatunde Daodu, said the youths from all the three senatorial districts of the state had commenced mobilisation ahead of the election.

Daodu said the election is a make or mar expedition for them, saying, “We are tired of the economic hardship in the country; no amount of intimidation would stop us from protecting our votes.”
