Two siblings were confirmed dead in a fire incident at the residence after they were reportedly locked inside the apartment by their mother.
The incident, which took place on Church Street, Oluwatuyi Quarters, Akure, on Wednesday evening, the apartment engulfed in flames, trapping the two children, aged five and three years old.
An eyewitness revealed that the children’s mother had locked the room to run a few errands in the area when the fire broke out.
The eyewitness could not explain the cause of the incident but stated that all attempts to break down the house doors were unsuccessful, and the two children were burnt beyond recognition.
She said the fire had consumed a large portion of the apartment before anyone realised what was happening.

The burnt remains of the children were found at the entrance of the apartment after the fire was extinguished.
She stated that neighbours mistook the children’s cries for the usual sounds of their mother disciplining them.
According to her, area residents called the state fire service but were told that their vehicle had run out of fuel and could not reach the scene of the incident.
She revealed that the father of the two children, identified as Jeila and Jersy, collapsed and fainted upon learning of the tragic incident and was rushed to the hospital.
Officers from the State Police Command, B Division, who visited the scene of the incident, were seen removing the bodies.
