A political advocacy group, Osun Youth Progressive in Diaspora, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone its 2026 gubernatorial ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District, citing fairness, equity, and political inclusivity.

In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Tunmise Ajiboye; Deputy Coordinator, Sulaimon Agbola-Aroso; and Secretary, Adeshina Ayomide, the group emphasised that Osun West has long been marginalised in the leadership of the state despite its contributions to governance and party development.

“For far too long, Osun West has been sidelined in the leadership of the state, despite its significant contributions to governance and party development. Since the creation of Osun State, the governorship has largely been dominated by the Osun Central and Osun East Senatorial Districts, leaving Osun West at a disadvantage. This prolonged marginalization is not only unfair but also weakens the sense of inclusivity that should be the foundation of any democratic system,” the statement read.

The group argued that the political landscape in Osun has historically favored the Central and East Senatorial Districts, leaving Osun West underrepresented.

Osun Youth Progressive in Diaspora asserted that zoning the ticket to Osun West would consolidate party support and prevent internal divisions.

“When party members from all zones perceive fairness in leadership distribution, they are more likely to remain loyal and work collectively toward victory in elections,” the statement emphasized.

The group noted that Osun West has remained a stronghold for the APC, consistently voting for the party’s candidates in previous elections.

“Zoning the governorship to Osun West would not only be a political decision but also a moral one—one that acknowledges the fundamental democratic principle of fair representation,” they stated.

The statement further called on party stakeholders, leaders, and the people of Osun State to support this movement for a more balanced political landscape.

“This is not just about winning an election; it is about laying the foundation for a more equitable political future. Together, we can build a more inclusive and politically stable Osun State where fairness, justice, and strategic governance remain at the core of our leadership decisions.”
