The crisis rocking the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened over the weekend as Mr. Adesoye Rauf, the Vice Chairman of Ward 08 in Obokun Local Government, officially resigned his position and membership from the party. This development comes barely two weeks after a wave of defections hit the party across various wards in the state.
In his resignation letter addressed to the leadership of the PDP in Obokun, Mr. Rauf cited loyalty to his political mentor, Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke, as a major reason for his departure. He noted that his decision was based on the dwindling internal democracy and lack of genuine leadership within the Osun PDP, which he said has continued to betray the trust of the grassroots.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as Vice Chairman of the PDP in Ward 08, but it is time for me to move on and align with a leader who values people, loyalty, and integrity,” he stated. “Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke has consistently demonstrated a sincere commitment to the development of our communities and the welfare of his followers.”
Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke, who currently represents Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency and serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, has continued to gain massive support and admiration across Osun East. Many political observers see his rising profile as a beacon of hope in contrast to the growing discontent within the PDP ranks.
The Osun PDP, which once boasted of strong grassroots coordination in Obokun, now faces a credibility crisis as loyalists continue to abandon the party over allegations of betrayal, imposition of candidates, and neglect of true party faithful. Stakeholders say the defection of key leaders like Mr. Rauf signals a looming collapse of the party’s structure in the area.
As the 2026 political calendar draws closer, political analysts believe that Hon. Oluwole Oke’s influence and popularity will play a decisive role in shaping the future of Obokun and Osun politics at large, especially if the PDP continues on its current trajectory of internal instability and leadership failure.
