Parents have been urged to ensure equal opportunities for both male and female children to make the youth more productive for themselves and society.
Speaking during a gender justice and inclusiveness policy dialogue organised at Adewole Ward in the Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, the Team Lead of the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), Ambassador Bashirah Abdulganiyu, stated that prioritising one gender over the other is contrary to the principles of justice and fairness.
According to her, parents should abandon outdated practices that place the male child above the female.
Ambassador Abdulganiyu emphasised that every child, regardless of gender, should have access to education, good moral upbringing, and other fundamental rights.
She also called on the state’s representatives at the National Assembly to oppose the enactment of any bill aimed at regulating the activities of non-governmental organisations in the country.
In their presentations, resource persons Oluwadamilola Bamidele and Aisha Masu’d stressed the importance of providing female children with opportunities to acquire quality education.
They encouraged young people to adopt the habit of learning a trade or vocation while in school to become self-reliant.
The duo also urged parents to ensure equal rights for both male and female children in the interest of fairness and justice.
In her presentation on digital rights and gender justice, Ambassador Rahma Aliyu advised women to exercise caution when using the internet and social media platforms.
She further cautioned the elderly against sharing sensitive information with others to avoid falling victim to fraud by unsuspecting criminals.
