The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum has postponed its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting from October 24 to November 28, 2024.
The decision was reached during a consultative meeting of the party’s various organs held at the Bauchi State Governors’ Lodge in Asokoro on Tuesday.
According to a communiqué signed by Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, the postponement aims to ensure unity and strength ahead of the Ondo gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 16, 2024.
“Reiterating the need for unity in the face of efforts by detractors to divide the party, the meeting called on all members to shun divisive utterances that could undermine ongoing efforts at strengthening the party to effectively play its role as the country’s main opposition, preparatory to taking over in 2027,” the communique read in part.
The meeting emphasised the need for unity among members, urging them to avoid divisive utterances that could undermine efforts to strengthen the party as the main opposition. The goal is to position the PDP for a successful takeover in 2027.
The communiqué stressed the importance of presenting a united front to unseat the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) government in Ondo State.
This development comes amid internal crisis within the PDP, with governors and stakeholders working to resolve differences and solidify the party’s position ahead of future elections.
The rescheduled NEC meeting is expected to address pressing issues and chart a course for the party’s future.
