Bola Badmus – Lagos

Governorship candidate of main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran popularly called Jandor, reassured career civil servants in the state ministries and agencies (MDAs) of better welfare conditions when he emerges victorious in Saturday’s poll exercise and forms the new government in Lagos, come May 29, 2023.

This was just as he debunked the campaign of calumny doing the round that he was planning to scrap the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), Vehicle Inspection Agency (VIO), Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LAASA), and other agencies of the government when he becomes the state governor.

The PDP standard bearer gave this pledge on Monday in a release issued by Mr Gbenga Ogunleye, who is Head, Media and Communications, JANDOR4Governor Campaign Organization, assuring that no government worker would be victimized, while all the existing agencies of the government would be retained and strengthened to deliver on the people-focused policies of his government.

Jandor condemned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for intimidating civil servants in the State to vote for the party against their wish, just as he decried reported cases of threatening of workers in the state and alleged directive issued to heads of government agencies and parastatal to monitor their staff and dismiss those who refused to comply with the plan to “vote and show”.

Jandor reiterated that the outcome of the Presidential and National Assembly election would have no effect on the voting pattern in the forthcoming March 18 Guber election, positing that the non-Yoruba speaking residents of Lagos who voted en mass for the Labour Party (LP) because of their preference for its presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, were traditionally supporters of the PDP in the state and had expressed their readiness to vote the main opposition party, come Saturday.

He also revealed that the Lagos youths who had been yearning for a change in government in the state owing to the inhuman treatment of the #End-SARS protesters had got an ally in him to end the reign of the APC and install a truly independent governor who would not be tied to the apron string of any godfather.

The PDP standard bearer, therefore, enjoined every eligible voter to troop out and exercise their franchise without any fear of harassment from the APC-sponsored political thugs, saying they should continue to endure the remaining days of the outgoing government as they anticipated a breath of fresh air.
