The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has called on Nigerians to join a 40-day prayer and fasting program to address the country’s current hardship and seek divine intervention for relief and prosperity.
The programme, scheduled to begin on January 6, 2025, and conclude with a national prayer gathering in Abuja on February 14, 2025, aims to mobilise pentecostal churches, Christians, and willing Nigerians to participate in prayers for the nation’s revival.
PFN President Bishop Francis Wale Oke emphasised that Nigeria’s challenges are a collective responsibility of both leaders and citizens.
He stressed the importance of commitment and togetherness in overcoming the current hardship, citing the biblical example of Nineveh’s king and people crying out for mercy and receiving divine intervention.
“In the Bible, when judgment was pronounced on Nineveh, the king and the people cried out for mercy, and God heard their prayers. We believe that the same God who delivered Nineveh is alive today and will hear our cry. This period of prayer and fasting is a key aspect of our biennial conference. We believe God will answer our prayers,” he said.
The PFN’s 18th Biennial Conference, themed “The Rebirth of a Great Nation: Nigeria is Great,” will feature prominent Nigerians addressing national issues and offering guidance on collective solutions to the country’s challenges.
Deputy President Archbishop John Daniel expressed optimism that Nigeria is on the path to greatness, foreseeing a future where the country becomes a model for the world.
However, Nigeria’s economic growth has slowed, and poverty remains a significant concern, with at least 80 million people living in extreme poverty.
The World Bank has emphasised the need for urgent reforms to address macroeconomic vulnerabilities and increase growth.
In a recent report, the World Bank highlighted the need for Nigeria to implement critical macroeconomic and structural reforms to reduce crisis vulnerabilities and increase growth. The report suggested three key areas for reform: restoring macroeconomic stability, boosting private sector development, and expanding social protection to protect the poor and vulnerable.
