A philanthropist in Zamfara state, Sanusi Bala Turaki has offered scholarships to 13 students of various tertiary institutions in the state.

The development came barely two weeks before the commencement of the first semester examination in which a number of students of the Federal University Gusau are yet to pay school fees for the 2022/2023 academic session.

This is the sequel to the prevailing socio-economic hardship and increase of school fees by the management of the institution.

Turaki, through his foundation “Maituta Support Organisation (MSO)”, presented registration fees to the 13 beneficiaries in Gusau.

Sanusi Bala, represented at the occasion by the Chairman of the foundation, Zaharadeen Sarki said the gesture was aimed at supporting students from less-privileged families.

“The registration fees of the beneficiaries were bankrolled by the philanthropist.

“We will continue to sustain these gestures until they finish their studies.

“This is in addition to hundreds of students sponsored under this foundation in the various tertiary institutions across the country.

“All the 13 beneficiaries were drawn from the less privileged families, who could not pay their school fees due to the economic challenges.

“The beneficiaries are undergoing studies in various courses at the Federal University and Federal College of Education, (Technical) in Gusau.

“Others benefiting students are from College of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe and Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata-Mafara,’’ Bala Turaki said.

Also speaking at the event, the former Chairman, Zamfara Radio and Television Services, Alhaji Sa’idu Maishanu, commended Bala Turaki and officials of the foundation for their support to the beneficiaries.

Maishanu urged political officeholders in the state to emulate the philanthropist in supporting the needy.

Abubakar Ibrahim, a 100-level student in the Chemistry Department, FUG, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, described the gesture as a welcome development.

“We appreciate this gesture and we promise to concentrate on our studies,’’ he said.
