Nationnewslead report that Hon. Seun Odofin has pleaded with the people of Ifon and Ilobu to shield their swords in the interest of peace, unity and tranquility.
This was the message of the All Progressive Congress candidate for Ijesa North Federal Constituency in the 2023 general election in reaction to the latest communal clashes involving the two communities in Orolu and Ifelodun Local Governments of Osun State.
He appealed to the joint security agents drafted to restore law and order in the affected areas to maintain neutrality while exercising their duties. Odofin applauded the warring towns for signing peace agreement and further counseled the residents to co-operate with security agencies and ready to provide useful information where and when necessary.
The former Special Adviser to the Speaker of the Ninth Assembly and present Chief-of-Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, advised the state government to be up to the task of finding lasting solution to the lingering crisis rocking the hitherto two-peaceful ancient cities to prevent sheer wantom destruction of lives and properties.
“I am disturbed with the news of recurrent crisis in Ifon and Ilobu. I want to appeal to our people in the two communities to please allow peace to reign for God sake and put a final stop to any blood spillage.
Killing is not the solution to solve any crisis. It will worsen it. Let’s remember that no life lost can ever be restored.
It’s certain that families of victims who were murdered or had their properties destroyed during the crisis will live with the trauma for so long years.
War is ever imagined than experienced. The aftermath of of it is always devastating. The good of it is that, every war is settled on a roundtable. We must not put the cart before the horse.
Let’s understand that no man can live in isolation. You can only live to enjoy inheritance and can only live in peace to enjoy life. I urge all involving stakeholders to come together and agree to live in peace and avert future conflict.
I applaud the two warring towns for signing peace accord and let the government be ready to make genuine truce achievable to prevent further wantom destruction of lives and properties.
Offenders must be made to face the full wrath of the law to serve as deterrent to others while victims are compensated accordingly.”
