Following the rate of looting and vandalization in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), by hoodlums, the FCT police command has arrested 79 suspects, it was learnt on Wednesday.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma who disclosed this when he accompanied the FCT Minister, Muhammed Bello to inspected companies, warehouses and areas that were vandalized in Idu Industrial layout and carted away with food and sensitive items.

He vowed that his men would strengthen the security archtecture of the area and entire territory.

Ciroma disclosed that the task force and security agencies would make adequate deployment and ensure constant patrol to ensure that no more damages was caused.

His words: “79 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the looting and vandalization”.

“We also realised that there is need for us to ensure that other investment that were not affected this time around and properly secured”.

FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello who expressed disappointment over the level of destruction assured those affected to be calm that the government in collaboration with security operatives would stop at nothing in tackling the situation.

The minister sympathised with the company owners and assured them of adequate support.

“We have check all the factories and warehouses that were vandalized during the last 48 hours, I have seen the level of destruction, we have realised the extend of investment on the ground.

“Going forward, we are going to work with all the relevant agencies and stakeholders to make sure that Idu Industrial zone is provided with additional security measures”

Bello said the companies have been employing hundreds Nigerians residents in FCT, which was contributing positively to the development, and need more support.

He explained that the chief of Jiwa who the communities in the area are under him is fully involved in the peace deal.

However the FCT Commissioner of police, Bala Ciroma said his men would strengthen the security archtecture of the area and entire territory.

On his part, the Sarkin Jiwa Idris Musa, described the actions as unfortunate and uncalled for.

He called on the youths to protect public assets, saying Nigeria remains the best country they have, and they must protect it.

Musa urged the youths especially within the area to steer clear of issues that will speak bad of Abuja, even as he pledged commitment to engaging the youth for better Society.

Branch Chairman, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mr Odun Emasealu, expressed delight with the visit of the FCT minister to the industrial zone of the city.

” As manufacturers we invest a lot a and do so much to keep commerce going.

” To now know that we have the support of the FCT Administration and they actually care. In fact when the looting was going on the minister was in touch with us, calling more than 15 times to ensure that we are at peace.

”And today he has come to see for himself. For us this is a big encouragement for us the manufacturers and we will keep investing to employ many youths and create peaceful environment for us to leave.”
