The Kano Police Command has announced the arrest of 82 offenders, with 60 of them already prosecuted within two weeks of their apprehension.

Making this known on Thursday in Kano, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Kiyawa, spoke on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Salman Dogo Garba, at the state police headquarters in Bompai.

According to him, “We must acknowledge the fact that all forms of crime are reducing geometrically in the state.”

He added, “This press conference underscores the importance of implementing robust community policing initiatives, intelligence-led policing, and targeted clearance operations in combating crimes and ensuring a safe environment for all, in line with the directives and vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.”

He stated that “the implementation of these strategies has yielded positive results as they led to the crackdown on criminal networks, including curtailing remnants of thuggery (Daba) activities within Kano Metropolis, dismantling armed robbery syndicates along the Jigawa-Kano and Bauchi-Kano borders, and decimating kidnapping incidents along the Kaduna-Kano and Katsina-Kano borders.”

He noted that these operations resulted in the arrest of a total of eighty-two (82) suspects and the recovery of firearms, dangerous weapons, illicit drugs, and stolen property.

He therefore highlighted that “The summary of the achievements recorded from 1 to 14 November, 2024 is as follows:”

The CP disclosed that 35 suspected thugs (Yan Daba), 13 suspected thieves, 13 armed robbery suspects, and five suspected fraudsters were arrested.

Others arrested include two suspected kidnappers, 12 suspected drug dealers, and two motorcycle thieves.

Items recovered from their hands include one AK-47 rifle and three locally made guns, 13 cutlasses, and 16 knives.

Also recovered items are three motorcycles, one tricycle, 50 sachets of diazepam tablets, and 42 sachets of tramadol tablets.

Therefore, the Command will continue to strengthen its multifaceted strategies that revolve around community policing, strategic communication in sensitising the public on security matters, intelligence-led policing, as well as targeted clearance operations that have effectively dismantled criminal networks’ operations, especially along border local government areas of the state.

“I must appreciate the sustained support of the Kano State Government under the leadership of the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, particularly the generous donation of 78 patrol motor vehicles to this command.”

He then added, “This gesture will significantly enhance our operational capacity and response times, enabling us to better serve the people of Kano State. I also thank the good people of Kano State for their cooperation and trust in the Police Command.”

Lastly, he stated, “As we appreciate the collective efforts of the members of the public and other security agencies, we urge everyone to continue cooperating with the police by providing valuable information and support in ensuring our overall safety and security.”
