Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have killed a suspected kidnapper, arrest other criminal suspects and recovered arms in different parts of the state.
It was gathered that the suspected kidnapper, one Joel Ochuko Ofoye, was hit by a bullet from the operatives during a gun duel between the police and his gang members in an attempt to free him from police custody on Monday.
The Police Public Relations Officer, S.P Bright Edafe, disclosed in a statement that, Ochuko Ofoye had earlier been arrested and was on investigation with police when the incident happened at Ewu Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the State.
While the gang members escaped with injuries, a Beretta Pistol with four rounds of live ammunition, a pump action gun with nine rounds of cartridges, and a locally fabricated revolver pump action were recovered from the scene.
In another development, it was stated that the operatives arrested four suspected kidnappers who kidnapped a 29-year-old indigene of Kokori Community (name withheld) and made a transfer of N5m from his account.
According to the details, the victim, after his release, reported the case to the police which led the operatives to the apartment of one Sapiro (not real name) where a Beretta Pistol was recovered and the consequent arrest of three other suspects on Sunday.
The arrested suspects were identified as Sapiro, Tony Binitie, Ejiro Ewuba and Ayuba Hussaini all of whom played active role in the kidnapping of the victim and stealing of his valuables.
In the same vein, operatives of Ufuoma Division nabbed five suspected members of Black Axe Confraternity on Tuesday, August 05, 2024.
It was stated that the suspected cultists went to Ogbovwan Community where they shot sporadically, killed a dog chained to a house and shattered the doors and windows of houses with bullets.
This commotion was what led the operatives to the scene where the suspects were arrested.
In reaction to these arrest, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda has warned sternly that criminally minded individuals will not be allowed to thrive in the State as adequate deployments have been made to ensure that they are identified, arrested and brought to book.
