Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), has been called upon to prioritise capacity building of its workforce to get the best out of them.
The call was made when the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Ibadan branch led by its Chairman, Ibraheem Folarin Bello FNSE, paid a technical working visit to the NRC Standard Gauge Station, Moniya, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital recently.
The delegation of NSE Ibadan was warmly received by the Railway District Manager, Western District, Angelique Ikewuka MNSE, and the Director, Mechanical/Electrical/Signal & Telecommunications, Jerry Oche MNSE.
During the visit, NSE, Ibadan branch laid emphasis on the need for continuous training and capacity building for NRC staff to enhance their technical proficiency.
NSE Ibadan noted that this, aside from boosting the output of the workforce will ensure operational excellence and boost the confidence the general public has in the NRC.
Also, during the meeting, potential areas of partnership between the NSE Ibadan branch and NRC were discussed, particularly in the area of skill acquisition programmes aimed at capacity development for engineers and technicians.
NSE Chairman expressed concern over the inadequate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by workers observed at the facility, stressing the importance of strict compliance with safety regulations and standards to protect workers, passengers, and freight operations.
Responding, Railway District Manager, Western District, Angelique Ikewuka MNSE, stated that NRC safety officers ensured compliance with all rules guiding the use of PPE by NRC staff on duties at any time with compromise.
