Lawmaker representing Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency of Edo in the House of Representatives, Murphy Osarao Omoruyi, has awarded a N10m scholarship to 120 best students from public secondary schools in the constituency.
Omoruyi said that the award of the scholarship was in keeping with his promise to provide yearly books’ scholarship to best students in his constituency.
The award of the scholarship is the second edition of Murphy Osaro Omoruyi’s yearly scholarship scheme for Senior Secondary School (SSS) students in the constituency.
Four best-performing SSS 3 students from public schools in Egor and Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Areas, totaling 120 students, benefitted from the scholarship.
The scholarship is to enable the students to purchase all textbooks and materials needed to enhance their performance in the forthcoming West African Examination Council (WAEC), and the National Examination Council (NECO ) examinations.
In addition to the money N10M, the students also received enough branded notebooks that will cover their final year academic activities.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the federal lawmaker said no nation could make any meaningful development without education, adding that that was what informed his commitment and investment in the sector.
Omoruyi promised to sustain the annual scholarship programme as long as he continued to represent the two local government areas in the National Assembly.
He admonished the students to put the fund to good use, adding that by so doing, he would be encouraged to do more.
Some of the benefiting students who could not hide their excitement assured Omoruyi of judicious use of the fund even as they prayed to God to bless his tenure in the National Assembly with wisdom and sound health.
