Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has warned Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, against yielding to political pressures urging him to distance himself from the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
In an interview with the BBC on Monday, Kwankwaso addressed allegations of interference with the current administration led by Yusuf. He expressed concerns over internal dynamics within the NNPP, particularly the actions of certain individuals attempting to undermine Governor Yusuf’s leadership.
Kwankwaso clarified that these suggestions may be part of a covert agenda to destabilize both Yusuf and the movement. He emphasized that some believe that supporting Governor Yusuf means leaving the Kwankwasiyya Movement, with some individuals possibly eyeing the governorship position themselves.

“There are those waiting for him to make mistakes, which they would use against us to achieve their personal goals. I commend the governor for standing firm against them,” Kwankwaso said.
He added that the success or failure of elected officials like Governor Yusuf reflects not only on them personally but also on the broader Kwankwasiyya Movement. The calls for Governor Yusuf to “stand on his feet” have been misinterpreted as a push for him to sever ties with the movement.
Despite these challenges, Kwankwaso praised Governor Yusuf’s resilience in resisting internal pressures and distractions from those seeking personal gain.
