Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to reverse its decision to boycott the September 21 local government election in the state.

A statement by Abubakar Bawa, the press secretary to the governor, stated that he made the call while addressing a large gathering of All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters from eight local government areas of the Sokoto East senatorial zone in Goronyo at the flag-off of the party’s campaign for the upcoming election.

“The leaders of SIEC were appointed by the immediate past administration of the PDP, and I didn’t tamper with that structure. I wonder why the PDP is afraid of participating in the polls organised by SIEC,” he stressed.

Governor Aliyu assured the opposition in the state that SIEC, under his administration, will conduct a free, fair, and credible local government election.

He added, “I had a meeting with the chairman of SIEC, and he assured me of transparent polls; whoever wins will be declared the winner.”

He urged the people of the state to come out in large numbers and vote overwhelmingly for APC candidates to consolidate the ongoing people-orientated projects in the state.

Governor Aliyu highlighted the successes of his administration across various sectors, stating that farmers in the state have been benefiting from free fertiliser, pesticides, and other farm implements as part of significant measures to boost agricultural production.

“We have installed many solar-powered street lights, constructed several road projects, and our workers are receiving their salaries between the 19th and 20th of every month, which is an improvement compared to the previous administration,” he said.

Also speaking, the APC leader in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, described politics as a service to the people and commended the governor for transforming the state within just one year.

“Mr. Governor, we are very proud of you. You have touched all the sectors of development in the state. Please keep up the good work,” Wamakko added.

He also appealed to the people of the state to continue supporting the administration to deliver more on its campaign promises.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Idris Mohammad Gobir, assured the people of Sokoto East that the administration is working tirelessly to end banditry in the zone, as more measures are being introduced by the state government to make the state safe and secure. He also called for more support from well-meaning citizens in that regard.

In the same vein, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, lauded the administration’s efforts in delivering the dividends of democracy to all parts of the state and assured the governor of the unflinching support of the people of the area.

Other prominent figures who spoke at the rally included the State APC Chairman, Isa Saddiq Achida; Ambassador Abubakar Shehu Wurno; former member representing Gada and Goronyo Federal Constituency, Musa S. Adar; as well as representatives of APC chairmen and sole administrators in the zone.

A key highlight of the event was the presentation of the party’s flags to its candidates for the election by the APC leader in the state, Senator Wamakko.
