Vice President Kashim Shettima has emphasised the need for collective efforts to address the educational challenges facing Nigeria, stressing that education is key to overcoming poverty and inequality.
Speaking at a Book Launch Programme, titled, ‘Navigating the Politics of Universal Education Policies in Nigeria’, by Prof. Modupe Adelabu, Shettima noted that Nigeria’s educational challenges are complex and multifaceted, requiring a collaborative approach to solve.
“We must work together to address the historical, cultural, and socio-economic factors that have hindered access to education for many Nigerians,” he said.
The Vice President also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to reform the education sector, saying, “The President’s commitment to education is unwavering, and we must support him in this endeavor.”
Shettima also highlighted the importance of education in empowering individuals and communities, saying, “Education is the key to unlocking the potential of our citizens, and we must prioritize it if we want to build a prosperous and equitable society.
“Education is the foundation upon which we can build a prosperous and equitable society. It is the key to unlocking the potential of our citizens and promoting social mobility.
“We must recognize that education is a collective responsibility, and we all have a role to play in ensuring that our children receive the quality education they deserve.
“The President’s National Education Transformation Plan is a bold initiative that has the potential to transform our education sector. We must support it with all our might.
“We cannot afford to leave any child behind. Every Nigerian child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their background or circumstances.
“Education is the engine of economic growth and development. We must invest in our education sector if we want to build a competitive economy.
“We must also recognize the importance of teacher training and welfare. Our teachers are the backbone of our education system, and we must support them to deliver quality education.
“We must promote a culture of learning and innovation in our schools. We must encourage our children to think critically, solve problems, and be creative.
“Education is a social justice issue. We must ensure that every Nigerian child has access to quality education, regardless of their background or circumstances.
“We must work together to address the educational challenges facing our country. We must put aside our differences and support the government’s efforts to improve education in Nigeria.”
Shettima also emphasised the need for Nigerians to rally around the government’s efforts to address the country’s development challenges.
“We must put aside our differences and work together to build a better future for ourselves and future generations,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to join hands in building a brighter future for the country, saying, “Together, we can overcome our challenges and build a Nigeria where every citizen has access to quality education and opportunities to thrive.”
