Dr Sani Shinkafi, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has strongly condemned the invasion of the residences of former Governor Bello Mohammed Matallewe in Gusau and Maradun, his hometown in Zamfara State.
Shinkafi, who also served as a member of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, denounced the action as outrageous, despicable, barbaric, and a flagrant display of impunity by the police.
In a statement he personally signed, Shinkafi expressed his disbelief that the police would invade the homes of the immediate past governor of Zamfara State shortly after he peacefully handed over power to Governor Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The politician called on all supporters of democracy to denounce the actions of the nation’s law enforcement agents, emphasizing that Nigeria is governed by the rule of law, not by might.
“I urge the Inspector General of Police to immediately order his personnel to vacate the occupied premises. If the police believe that the former governor has a case to answer, due process of the law must be followed. Nigeria is not a banana republic.
“I vehemently condemn this politically motivated action by the police to embarrass, harass, and intimidate the former governor of the state. This shameful display must cease in order to safeguard our hard-earned democracy,” Shinkafi stated.
