South-South Senate caucus backs Tinubu’s tax reform bills

The South-South Senate Caucus led by Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has unanimously backed the tax reform bills of President Bola Tinubu.

The group comprising all Senators from the South-South geopolitical zone also passed a vote of confidence on the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The South South Senate Caucus’s position was contained in a communique issued at the end of a meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, and released to the media on Thursday.

The group stressed its support for President Tinubu’s tax reform bills in recognition of the importance of tax reforms to improve revenue generation and enhance economic stability.

The Senators stressed that the support for the bill is based on a thorough study of the bills to ensure that they to promote the interest of the people of the South-South and indeed the nation.

The Senators called for restraint on the part of those trying to introduce ethnic and regional sentiments into the issue of the bills and urged them to embrace the robust dialogue already initiated by the Senate.

“Recognizing the importance of tax reforms in enhancing national revenue and fostering economic stability, we resolved to support the Tax Reforms Bills.

“This support will be anchored on a comprehensive study and thorough evaluation of the content of the Bills to ensure they align with the overall interest of Nigerians, particularly the well-being of the South-South region.

“The Caucus calls for restraint on the part of those bent on introducing sentiments, whether regional, ethnic or tribal to a national dialogue and looks forward to robust interactions and consultations as already commenced by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The lawmakers also reaffirmed their “unwavering commitment to standing by the Senate President and supporting his leadership in steering the Senate toward its constitutional mandate of making laws that serve the best interests of the nation and its citizens.”

Those who signed the communique are the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, Senator Jarigbe A. Jarigbe (Secretary)- Senator Barinada Mpigi Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Senator Neda Imasuen Senator Munir Chinedu Nwoko and Senator Thomas Joel-Onowakpo.

Others are Senator Aniekan Bassey, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, Senator Allwell Onyeso, Senator Ipalibo Banigo, Senator Benson Agadaga, Senator Konbowei, Benson Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, Senator Ekong Sampson and Senator Ede Dafinone.
