As part of its organic membership drive and the need for collaborative efforts, the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) has inaugurated the Lagos Island District Society of the Institute.

With this inauguration, stockbrokers in the area will meet regularly to stay updated on the latest developments in the Institute and the financial market, uphold the tenets of professionalism, promote investor education, and encourage young individuals to pursue careers in securities and investment.

In his inaugural speech, the 13th President and Chairman of the Institute’s Council, Oluropo Dada, emphasized the uniqueness of the Lagos Island District, which comprises the largest concentration of securities and investment professionals in Nigeria.

According to him, this places a responsibility on the District to play a vital role in the growth and development of the Institute.

“The Lagos Island District Society holds a unique position in the annals of our great Institute. It is the district with the largest concentration of securities and investment professionals in our dear country, and as such, much is expected from this district. With a significant membership base, this district has a distinct opportunity, and indeed the responsibility, to significantly impact the growth of the Institute,” said Dada.

The inaugural Chairman of the Lagos Island District, Mr. Hakeem Otiti, assured that his members would collaborate with the Institute’s principal officers to foster rapid development in the securities and investment profession. Otiti noted that his members were aware of the responsibilities ahead and would work as a team to support the Institute.

“There are many tasks ahead of us. It is an opportunity to serve, an opportunity to be servants of our Institute, and I believe we are going to grow the Institute’s membership. This district is the nerve center of the Institute. We will work in collaboration with the Institute and key members of the community to accomplish the objectives of the district in particular and the Institute in general,” Otiti explained.

The highlight of the inauguration was the swearing-in of the interim executive members. The creation of the Lagos Island District Society aims to foster collaboration and a sense of community among CIS members in the Zone. In December last year, the Institute inaugurated the FCT Northern Zone District in Abuja.
